One time while I was working alone, I found myself getting blue.. I don’t know what and why but it just happens to me sometimes. But since I was working I cannot be sad because then my mind would drift off and my concentration will be shattered so I decided to try and reminisce all the happy, funny memories I have of my friends…

I remember Rose, she’s a friend I met by chance in an internet shop in Taiwan. After working in Taiwan for three years, both our contract ended but thru emails we met again in Manila. We were both bored and being both “entrepreneurs” by heart, we decided to cook and sell food in front of our house. Since it was also summer we decided to add “sago’t gulaman” in the afternoon.
First day of selling the cold “palamig” , while we were talking with a cup of “sago’t gulaman” in our hands, a jeepney full of passengers passed by and the driver said, “Neng , isa ngang palamig..” I hastily grabbed the plastic cups beneath the table but the cups wouldn’t budge. Rose kept watching me in my futile attempt with the cups and finally said, “wag na nga, eto na lang ” then she got her cup, poured the cold “palamig” into it and handed it to the driver.. I was so shocked because that was the cup she was drinking from but she gave it to the driver without much thought. My oh my, was I laughing my head off after the jeepney sped away, we had a really really good laugh at what happened…. and so everytime I remember Rose , I just couldn’t stop smiling. Rose, oh Rose…

I remember another Rose, this one’s my roommate and batchmate. I sometimes call her Rose, Rosenda, Rosemarie from Claudine Barretto’s telenovela , remember ? Actually, I don’t know how she will react to my post but she’s my friend, I hope she’ll just laugh this one off but Rose, I’ve got to say, you are one of those I will never forget . What we shared in Taiwan, yung iyakan, tawanan natin, mga kalokohan, it was something very special really for me…..
It was Christmas eve in Taiwan, our very first, we were homesick and sad, so we decided to go drinking inside our room. This was the first time we ever tried drinking okay ? Anyways, my friend Jez, prepared the punch with some gin and lots of pineapple juice ( or was that orange juice, can’t remember) and then we had our rounds, first-timers that we are… We had some music and were dancing or was it just me who kept dancing ?
“Kampai, kampai ! ” ( whatever that means ) we’d say.
“Bottoms up! ” and would drink the punch which actually tasted more like just plain juice really. After a while of drinking the spiked juice , I grew tired and sleepy and tipsy I guess so I decided to climb up my bed and go to sleep. Rose and the other three girls were still on it.
The effect of the gin lulled me to sleep but some time after I heard somebody hollering, ” Help me Ate Cha, di ko kaya to.” It was Joan, she was trying to bring a drunk Rose to her bed. And then I heard Rose yelling ” give me the knife, akala nyo gusto ko buhay dito sa Taiwan, no !!! “ and then another “give me the knife.. ” and more yelling till I drifted again to deep slumber. I was really too sleepy to get up and I don’t know if I even gave Jo any reply but I definitely don’t know how Jo was able to get her up onto her bed.. All I know is that the morning after we kept laughing about all the things Rose was yelling about.. we teased her mostly about the “knife” …

There are more that I can think of, happy memories, some sad, one unforgettable memory from each friend that I have but I cannot share them all in one page really..
To my friends, you all know what we’ve been through. I’d like to thank all of you for your gift of friendship..

Just want you to know you make me smile today, esp. that sago incident with Rose. I also know her personally and I’m surprised she’s that pasaway din pala.
