Do you sometimes get hurt by comments about how you look physically ? Some of us do, and some of us don’t. Some of us care, and some of us don’t.
What do you say when someone tells you , “how come your nose is so unlike your other siblings ? Yours is a little bit flat.” Do your brows furrow ? Do you flare up in anger? Or how about if someone tells you matter-of-factly, “how come you don’t look as pretty as your older sister?”
Oftentimes it is just too easy for other people to comment on others’ flaws and not think that they can be hurt from them. Some people seem to enjoy it when they make other people’s imperfections as their butt of joke or their topic of the hour. Some people, especially the young, make others’ physical imperfections their way to become funny to their friends. They think that making snide remarks to the not-so-pretty schoolmate is okay. Sad as it is, this is reality, the world is full of them, in school, in the community, in the office. In a world where we boast to be civilized , people are not perfect and will still act foolishly at times.
But what matters is not what these kind of people say about us but how we take the things they say or do to us. Do we let them get to us, or we just let it go and shrug it off?
I know it will take a deal of an effort to ignore mean people but in my perspective, they can say all the horrendous, nasty things, all the insults, that they want to say of you, but it would all depend on how well you will handle them. If you know the truth about yourself that you are not what they say you are, who cares? Or you know in your heart that you were made exactly the way that God wanted you to be, with the afro hair , with the hairy birthmark on your cheek, then why care?
So some of us don’t have perfect bodies, perfect aquiline noses, fair complexion, some of us have scarred bodies, some of us have a bigger leg than the other leg or some might have hydrocephalus heads, so what ? We were made precisely the way that God wanted us to be. He specifically chose our parents so that through their combined genes, DNAs , traits, habits and what ever else they’ve got inside them , the child that will be borne of them, will be the child that God had perfectly in His mind, defects and all.
So next time somebody makes bad comments about your physical looks, stand tall and be proud, don’t let them get to you. YOU WERE MADE JUST THE WAY GOD WANTED YOU TO BE….
